View Original Description
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is one of the great cities in the U.S.A. Known as “The City of Brotherly Love”, Philadelphia’s history parallels that of the United States. The Founding Fathers of the United States met there regularly and the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were signed in Philadelphia. The city served as the capital of the United States for a time and there are a number of National Historical Sites in the city that relate to the emancipation of the United States from Britain. Many are centered in close proximity to Independence National Historical Park including Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence was signed and the famously cracked Liberty Bell, the iconic symbol of the Independence of the U.S.A. The park contains many other historic spots including homes of famous Americans, early government bank buildings and the oldest church in Pennsylvania.
Art Galleries and Museums are in abundance in Philadelphia and include The Benjamin Franklin National Memorial, The Academy of Natural Sciences, The National Constitution Center, The National Museum of American Jewish History, The African American Museum of Pennsylvania, The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Rodin Museum with the largest collection of the works of Rodin outside of France among the lineup of those facilities worthy of your attention. The home of the Philadelphia Orchestra is in the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. The attractive modern red brick building is open for tours and definitely worth the time spent. If the Orchestra is performing or one of the other productions staged in the Kimmel Center you will find that it is a wonderful theater in which to take in a performance.
Philadelphia boasts a world class zoo, the second largest concentration of diamond sellers in the United States, its own Chinatown and an Italian Marketplace. An historic gym and boxing club, The Blue Horizon, presents boxing matches in much the same manner as has been the tradition since the 1920’s and also has a museum dedicated to the champions that were made there. Sports is a major part of the culture in Philadelphia and the city is home to the Phillies, one of Major League Baseball’s preeminent teams and the 76ers of the National Basketball Association with a solid history of championship squads. First class restaurants and clubs may be found throughout the city and the famous “Phillie Cheesesteak” is certainly worthy of your attention.
