Visit Piazza Basilone Memorial, Little Italy, San Diego, California

This memorial to Little Italy neighborhood soldiers who died during WWII & Korean War. It's named for Gunnery Sergeant John Basilone, the decorated Marine whose courage and sacrifice became part of American history. Born on November 4, 1916, John Basilone became one of the most decorated Marines of WWII — earning the Medal of Honor for heroism at Guadalcanal and the Navy Cross at Iwo Jima.
