Place des Cocotiers, Nouméa, New Caledonia
View Original Description
Place des Cocotiers is an important public square in Noumea, located in the heart of its city center, to the west of the peninsula. It is the real epicenter of the city, a meeting place for many Noumeans and lined with shops and administrations, starting with the town hall. Its center, embodied by the Céleste fountain, serves as point 0 for the mileage of the roads of New Caledonia. It is a fairly large esplanade of about 4 ha, rectangular in shape measuring some 100 m wide (from north to south) for 400 m long (east to west), fully pedestrianized but bounded by several major, essentially one-way thoroughfares.
