Visit Pointe du Hoc Ranger Monument, Cricqueville-en-Bessin, France

This memorial situated on top of a former German observation bunker overlooking the cliffs at Pointe du Hoc in Normandy reads: “To the heroic Ranger commandoes D2RN E2RN F2RN of the 116th Infantry who under the command of Colonel James E. Rudder of the 1st Infantry Division attacked and took possession of the Pointe du Hoc”. After scaling the steep cliffs and fighting for two and a half days, of the original 225 men who came ashore on D-Day June 6 1944, about 75 were fit for duty.
