Puerto Escondido (Baja California), Mexico
View Original Description
Puerto Escondido (also known as Puerto Loreto) is small coastal town in the Mexican state of Baja California Sur. It's a beautiful natural harbor, has a safe deep water marina and also a number of protected anchorages in different spots within a small area. This harbor has been a popular stop for both sailboats and power yachts for many years.
Puerto Escondido is not your typical Baja beach resort as it only has one small (nice) hotel that is not on the water, and a good trailer/RV park and restaurant that is within walking distance of the marina.
It is located at 28 km south of Loreto, on Federal Highway 1, overlooking Isla el Carmen in the Gulf of California. Puerto Escondido is bordered by a large, rugged mountain range called Sierra de la Giganta.
Puerto Escondido was the site of a planned resort, condominium, hotel, golf course and marina complex. Construction was started in the mid 1980s by a French investing group and the Mexican government but never completed after some 20 millions dollars were spent..
