Founded in 1608, Quebec City, Quebec, Canada is one of the oldest cities in North America. Within the city you will find Old Quebec, a neighborhood that lies enveloped by stone walls, the only such area in North America, outside of Mexico, where this type of fortification remains today. Beyond the walls of Old Quebec exists a scenic region, Côte-de-Beaupré's bordered by the St. Lawrence River with a solid history of agriculture where you will find homes built in the 18th and 19th centuries along with century’s old family farms and the oldest operating flour mill in Canada. The region is home to local artists displaying their talents for wood sculpture. The area is also known for its many waterfalls and gorges and the pristine beauty that results. The gateway to this region, Parc de la Chute-Montmorency, complete with gondola and trails that afford incredible views of its over 80 meter high waterfalls. Canyon Sainte-Anne, carved out of 900 Million year old rock awaits your visit with suspension bridges and its own trail system and provides an aerial adventure course with an extra long zip-line. Mount Sainte-Anne oversees the region calling to visitors to mountain bike, hang glide, golf, camp and hike against a dramatic backdrop.
Quebec has its roots firmly planted in its French ancestry. Some refer to the Quebec City as “Paris on the St. Lawrence”. Perched on one of the most beautiful riverside settings in North America this French speaking town channels the feeling of being on holiday in Europe. The local cuisine favors French cooking as well but with a nod to local ingredients such as maple syrup, caribou and wild berries. Excursions frequently find their way to Lower Town, the old trading quarter that has been revitalized into vibrant arts, shopping, hotel and restaurant district. The brick and copper-green Chateau Frontenac, with its command of the city skyline, beckons tourists seeking luxury accommodation at Quebec’s most recognizable landmark.
A trip to Quebec City, Canada provides an opportunity to fulfill your dream of spending time in a historic North American city that has preserved its link with the past and is a gateway to awesome natural beauty.
