Saint Joseph Island is one of the three islands in the Salvation Islands, French Guiana. Saint-Joseph Island was the Reclusion, where inmates were sent to be punished by solitary confinement in silence and darkness for escapes or offences committed in the penal colony. Devil's Island was for political prisoners.
The ruins of a prison built in 1897-1898 and a seaside cemetery exists on Saint Joseph Island.
