Visit Santiago, Baja California Sur, Mexico

Santiago is a small town famous for it's citrus groves and blue fan palms in in the central East Cape region in Baja California Sur, Mexico. It's located on Mexico's Highway 1, about an hour's drive north of San José del Cabo. At Km 85 take a road west for 2 kms. The raod to the town is surrounded by blue fan palms which is an important source of palm leaves in the region for making palapa roofs. Like Todos Santos it is almost directly on top of the Tropic of Cancer. The town is also home of the only zoo in Baja California Sur. The park is open daily 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. in summer, until 5 p.m. the rest of the year. Admission is free, though donations are gladly accepted. Misión de Santiago de los Coras Aiñiní was founded in 1724 by the Jesuit missionary, Ignacio Maria Napoli, and closed in 1795; the subsequent Church of Santiago Apostol was built nearby.
