Scorpion Anchorage, Santa Cruz Island, California
View Original Description
Explore Scorpion Anchorage on Santa Cruz Island has a nice cobbled beach and is a good launching point for exploreing the island. From here, you can snorkel in the diverse kelp forest just off the beach or paddle a kayak farther out, past the island’s dark cliffs and sea caves. There is a short hike from the beach up Smugglers Road to the high bluff and the stand of cypress pines known as Delphine’s Grove, where you’ll fall under the spell of a sweeping ocean view and the sound of the wind in the boughs.
At Scorpion Anchorage rangers and naturalists offer guided hikes year round. Hikes generally begin 30 minutes after the Island Packers boats arrive on the island. In addition, self-guided trail booklets are available. During the summer, rangers offer evening programs at Scorpion Ranch campground.
There is water available at Scorpion Anchorage. However, there is no water at Prisoners Harbor so visitors must bring all their water with them.
