Visit Sri Lanka

Referred to as the Pearl of the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka has a history that dates back over three thousand years. Part of that history includes the country’s deep connection to the Buddhist religion. It is actually one of the few places in South Asia that still has Buddhism deeply incorporated into its culture. One of the most sacred Buddhist pilgrimage sites, the Temple of Tooth (aka Dalda Maligawa) is located in the Sri Lanka city of Kandy. Surrounded by theIndian Ocean, the Gulf of Mannar, and the Palk Strait, Sri Lanka is a tropical paradise complete with exotic animals, lush forests, and long stretches of white sand beaches. There is plenty to see and do in Sri Lanka and areas such as Nilaveli Beach in the Tamil north are now accessible. Nilaveli Beach boasts beautiful scenery and crystal clear waters ideal for snorkeling. Most beach areas offer popular water activities. Beyond beaches, Sri Lanka also has four biosphere reserves: Bundala, Hurulu Forest Reserve, the Kanneliya-Dediyagala-Nakiyadeniya, and Sinharaja. The Yala National Park protects herds of elephant, peacocks, and deer, while the Wilpattu National Park focuses on preserving the habitats of storks, pelicans, ibis, and other water birds. There are also plenty of exotic animals such as monkeys and elephants roaming around the island, so it’s hard not to see at least a few when visiting. Sri Lanka has the following events & festivals: Vel - July Kataragama Festival – July Kandy Esala Perahera - late July to early August
