Strawberry Battery, north of Fort McNab, was built in 1939-40 to replace Hugonin Battery. Two QF (quick fire) guns from Hugonin were installed in 1940. The emplacements, searchlights and other features were almost complete. At the end of World War II it was totally dismantled between 1947 and 1948, the guns moved to Fort McNab. Later in 1948 the military rearmed Strawberry Battery. The fort was finally decommissioned in 1956.
