Off-Road & Hike to Strike Valley Overlook, Capitol Reef National Park

Strike Valley Overlook is located off the Burr Trail Road. This is a beautiful view of Waterpocket Fold in Capitol Reef. Four-wheel drive vehicles, and often high clearance two-wheel drive vehicles, can drive 3 miles (4.8 km) up the canyon to the Strike Valley Overlook parking area. It's a 0.4-mile (0.6 km) hike to Strike Valley Overlook. From the overlook high above the valley, nearly a dozen sedimentary rock layers representing approximately 150 million years of geologic history are on full display. The overlook, marked by a large rock cairn, sits atop a low saddle reached by way of a sandy trail, followed by two moderate-grade slickrock climbs. Overnight camping is not permitted on the Strike Valley Overlook route. Check at the visitor center for the latest road conditions before driving into the canyon with high clearance two-wheel drive vehicles.
