Swenys Pharmacy, Dublin, Ireland
View Original Description
Sweny’s Pharmacy has been in Dublin since 1847 and is known since it was featured in James Joyce’s Ulysses. It now acts as a semi museum, second hand bookstore, lemon-scented soap seller (in reference to that described in the book), and a space for readings. Sweny’s is maintained by volunteers, dedicated to preserving the shop as it was in Joyce’s time.
The Finch family enjoy acting out parts from The Cat and the Devil, a children’s story Joyce wrote for his son, Stephen.
