Visit Te Anau, New Zealand

Te Anau is a town in the South Island of New Zealand on the eastern shore of Lake Te Anau in Fiordland. Lake Te Anau is the largest lake in the South Island and second only within New Zealand to Lake Taupo. Te Anau is the gateway to a vast wilderness area famed for hiking amid spectacular scenery and prolific water falls. Many tourists also participate in activities such as kayaking, cycling, jet boat riding, fishing and hunting and farm tours. Multiple species of bird life are also found locally, notably the endangered Takahe which can be found at the Fiordland Wildlife Park. The Routeburn Track is a world-renowned hiking trail usually completed by starting on the Queenstown side of the Southern Alps, at the northern end of Lake Wakatipu, and finishing on the Te Anau side, at the Divide, a few miles from the Homer Tunnel to Milford Sound.
