The Visitors Center is on the grounds of the Texas State Capitol and just yards away from TSLAC's Lorenzo de Zavala State Archives and Library Building. The three-story castle-like structure reflects the mid-19th century mock-medieval revival architectural style and is the oldest state office building in Texas. From 1857 to 1917 this iconic building housed the Texas General Land Office, which was founded by the Republic of Texas in 1837. Located in the restored 1856-57 General Land Office building.
