The Elephant Sanctuary has African elephants and offers an interactive elephant experience, elephant back riding and overnight accommodation. We offer hands-on educational elephant interactions. This provides our guests with a far more intimate experience with the elephants. Our dedicated staff is committed to the use of positive reinforcement elephant training methods and as a result we have relaxed elephants who enjoy interacting with our guests. Guests are guided on foot through The Elephant Sanctuary. Guides will provide in-depth information and insight into African elephants. You will be introduced to our elephants in the forest area, and here you will be able to touch and interact with the elephants. You will see the special relationship that the elephant handlers share with their elephants and become a part of it. Walk trunk-in-hand with the elephants. See the stables where the elephants sleep at night. Guests learn about elephant anatomy and are able to feed them. Remember to wear flat walking shoes, sun hats and bring your camera. The 08h00 Elephant Experience includes brushing the elephants down. Elephant Back Riding is a optional activity, offered additionally to the Interaction program. The different programs are listed below with summaries as to what to expect and the rates. GUEST HOUSE/LODGE ACCOMMODATION Capacity: 6 rooms (12 people sharing) Guests have the option to stay in our Tuskers B&B which is situated a short distance away from the elephant stables. Rates are inclusive of Bed and Breakfast only. Check in time is 15h00-16h00. Check out is 10h00 on day of departure. Excludes all Elephant Activities i.e. The Elephant Interaction Program and Elephant Back Riding, as well as the Monkey tour are extra. From Johannesburg: Take the Brits R512 (past Lanseria Airport) to Hartbeespoort Dam. Turn left at the T-Junction towards Broederstroom, passing Pecanwood Golf Estate. Turn right to cross dam over open bridge and turn right at T-junction, on to four-way stop at the Craft Market (garage on right hand side and one opposite as well). Turn left and travel 2.5km to The Elephant Sanctuary. We are on the left side on the road. From Pretoria: Follow route to Hartbeespoort Dam. Travel through tunnel. At the four-way stop at the Craft Market, continue 2.5km to The Elephant Sanctuary. We are on the left hand side of the road.
