The Douglas Center is located within Indiana Dunes National Park and operates as the park's western visitor center as well as the site of field trips. The Douglas Center, located at 100 North Lake Street in Gary-Miller, is open year round and provides visitors with all kinds of information and activities to help them learn about and appreciate the national lakeshore. It hosts exhibits, classrooms, and provides access to the 2.5 mile Miller Woods Trail which extends all the way out to Lake Michigan. The Gary Public Transportation Corp runs a bus line on Lake Street with a stop just south of the Douglas Center at 3rd Avenue and North Lake Street. It is the #13 bus.For Chicago or South Bend visitors, the South Shore Train has a Miller station which is located less than 1 mile south of the Douglas Center.
