Visit Torre del Poetto, Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy
The Poetto Tower , also known as the Devil's Saddle Tower, is a small coastal tower, located on the promontory of the Devil's Saddle, in Cagliari. The building, half in ruins, dominates, from its position 87 metres above sea level, the small port of Marina Piccola and the nearby Poetto beach.
The tower, dating back to 1597, today appears broken into two sections along the vertical axis. The structure is truncated conical, originally vaulted with a dome, seven metres high and five metres in diameter. The building material is made of limestone.
From the place where the Poetto tower stands, which is difficult to reach, you can see the coastal towers of the gulf of Cagliari, including those of Mezza Spiaggia and Isola dei Cavoli.
