The Trøndelag Folk Museum, popularly called Sverresborg, is a large open-air museum in Trondheim, Norway, devoted to history and culture. In recent years it has also included large indoor exhibitions. It also includes a large collection of archival material and photographs .
The 60 buildings within the museum date from different periods and from different places in Norway, mainly in the Trøndelag region. The oldest building is the stave church in Haltdalen , a stave church from the 12th century ; the majority are buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries , including farm buildings, town houses and Lappish huts ( goahti).
The Trøndelag Folk Museum was officially founded in 1913 (after four years of collecting old buildings), and in 1914 it moved to Sverresborg, the area of Trondheim close to the ruins of King Sverre 's fortress . The area of the museum in 2008 was 15 hectares.
It also administers the Meldal Rural Museum , the Trondheim Shipping Museum and the Norwegian Museum of the Deaf.
