Visit University of Athens Central Building, Athens, Greece

The original main building for the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens was designed in the Greek Revival style by the Danish architect Christian Hansen (1803-1883 CE). The decoration was done by the Austrian painter Carl Rahl. Construction began in 1839 CE. This front wing was completed in 1842-1843 CE but funding problems delayed completion of the rear wings of the H-shaped building until 1864 CE. The University of Athens was founded in 1837 CE. Over 100,000 students are registered there today.
