Wild Gardens of Acadia (Sieur de Monts), Acadia National Park, Maine
View Original Description
The Wild Gardens of Acadia offer a microcosm of Mount Desert Island's natural habitats, all in a one arce spot. The gardens have gravel and pine-needle paths that let you see what's in bloom and learn to recognize a variety of native plants, which are labeled to aid in identification.
The Wild Gardens include over 400 plant species, all indigenous, in twelve sections designed to represent natural plant communities found within Acadia National Park.
Watch the abundant bird life or just listen to the spring-fed brook in a most tranquil setting.
Smoking or bringing your pets into the Wild Gardens of Acadia is not allowed.
The Gardens are still maintained primarily by volunteers, along with a head gardener sponsored by Friends of Acadia.
The garden is located at the Sieur de Monts Spring and Nature Center, 2 miles south of Bar Harbor near the intersection of the Park Loop Road and Route 3 on Mount Desert Island.
