Visit Ximenez-Fatio House, St. Augustine, Florida

Andres Ximenez, a Spaniard, built this house in 1798 on Hospital Street (now Aviles Street), the first platted thoroughfare in the United States. Constructed of coquina (soft limestone containing shell and coral fragments quarried locally on Anastasia Island), the first floor was a general store and the second floor was the living quarters. In the Spanish style, the main entrance was through the courtyard in the back. By 1830, the house had been converted to an inn. Today the property is the Ximenez-Fatio House Museum.
