Volunteer at an Orphanage

The most vulnerable victims of poverty and political upheaval are orphaned children. Unable to earn an income and defenseless against most of civilization’s evils, parentless children struggle to subsist throughout the world and are dependent upon the largesse of others in their community to survive and ultimately prosper as independent, productive adults. Orphanages around the world, in countries rich and poor, take on this incredible challenge, typically attempting to nurture and sustain their charges with limited resources. In its purest form, orphanages attempt to provide shelter, nutrition and developmental resources to create an opportunity for the unfortunate children in their care to become self-sufficient, independent members of their societies. You can make a lasting difference in an orphaned child’s life. Volunteers are welcomed at orphanages in most parts of the world that are willing and able to provide assistance for a week, a month or even a year or longer. Activity direction and education with regard to language skills, sports activities, interpersonal relationships, hygiene, dance, art and music are just some of the opportunities that exist for volunteer providers. An acute need exists for specialized skills such as medicine, dentistry, physical therapy or working with developmentally challenged children. The rewards that accrue from spending time as a volunteer at an orphanage providing assistance in any way that you are able accrue as much to you, the provider, as they benefit the children you will be helping. There is no doubt that your involvement will make a lifelong impact on the unfortunate children whether it is in a rural orphanage in India or in your own community. Chances are your involvement will change your life, too. Satisfy that dream of yours to make a difference and add to your list the commitment of spending whatever time you can allocate to Volunteering At An Orphanage.
