The Rappenloch Gorge is located about five kilometers southeast of Dornbirn city center in the Austrian province of Vorarlberg . It is one of the largest gorges in Central Europe , was formed by the breakthrough Ebniter- or Dornbirner Ache through the limestone mergelbergs of the Bregenzerwald mountains and is located at the entrance to the Walser settlement Ebnit , just above the old industrial estate Gütle .
Originally developed since the beginning of the 20th century by footbridges, the gorge was due to a huge rock fall, which also tore the Rappenloch Bridge into the depth (this was previously crossed as an arch bridge the ravine at its most prominent point), from 10 May 2011 to August 24, 2013 are no longer committed consistently. Meanwhile, new, spectacular paths have been built on which a continuous accessibility of the gorge is guaranteed again.
