Wine Tasting in Andalucia, Spain

The Andalucia region of Spain has a long and storied history of viticulture and winemaking. Historical records are not exact in pinpointing when the first wines were produced but it is believed that the Greeks were making wine in Andalucia over 2,500 years ago. From at least the 15th century Andalucian wines were shipped to thankful drinkers throughout Europe. Located in southern Spain, Andalucia is quite a large geographic area and includes the Spanish cities of Cordoba, Malaga, Seville and Jerez. Best known for its fortified wines like Sherry there is also significant production of quality, dry, red wines throughout the region. The vineyards are located among and between olive groves and tasting opportunities exist for olive oil in addition to wine sampling. As a wine lover your dreams probably include sampling some of the great wine producing cultures of Europe and there is perhaps no tradition of winemaking that is any more storied than that of Andalucia. A visit to these ancient vineyards where winemaking has been a way of life for thousands of years is a worthy addition to your list.
