Wine Tasting in Bordeaux, France

The Bordeaux region of France produces nearly 700 Million bottles of wine each year and nearly 90% of those are red. There are over 8,500 producers that call Bordeaux home. The first evidence of winemaking in this part of France supports that the craft was an important part of the culture as early as the 1st century, A.D.. Primarily wines were produced for domestic consumption until the 12th Century when a Royal Wedding created an opportunity to export the majority of the production to England where the blended red wine is known as “Claret”. Because the production of wine in the Bordeaux region is so prodigious the area is divided into six sub-regions, each with their own identities and characteristics. Touring and tasting opportunities abound within all the sub-regions with numerous guided tours and self tours of the wineries and chateaus available. You may have dreamed of a romantic meal that includes a loaf of French bread and a bottle of Bordeaux wine. That dream can become all that more real if you put yourself in the place where the grapes were grown, crushed, bottled and aged in a style that is thousands of years old.
