Wine Tasting in
Casablanca Valley, Chile
View Original Description
In proximity to Santiago is found the Casablanca Valley, Chile’s upstart northern coastal wine region. The wines from this area have exhibited the finer qualities found in wines from Mediterranean climates as well as coastal California, dominated by cool weather fruit since much of the region lies within 20km (12 miles) from the Pacific Ocean. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay production dominate presently but other premium plantings are coming into full maturity with some remarkable Cabernet, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc bottlings.
Wine tasting in the Casablanca Valley with visits to family owned estates, many with restaurants that appeal to the foodies in your group, usually includes stops at 4 or 5 wineries and sometimes includes a side trip to Valparaiso, an important cultural center of South America.
The valley lies in the western side of the Chilean Coast Range that separates it from the Central Valley wine region.
Casablanca's growing seasons last up to a month longer than other regions, typically harvesting in April. It's recommended to make reservations in advance to visit the wineries.
