3 Days Tour of Maramures

Accompanied by a true local guide, you will mark famous landmarks (the Merry Cemetery, the tallest wooden church in the world - Sapanta-Peri, Barsana monastery, UNESCO listed wooden churches, the Memorial Museum and Elie Wiesel House from Sighetu Marmatiei) but also places off the beaten path: local markets, little known artisans, unique medieval style farm machinery (like the only water powered fulling and carding mills from Europe still in daily use just for community needs), an alcohol distillery, a natural dyed rug weaver (UNESCO intangible cultural heritage), great terraced landscapes and points of view, the last medieval hay fields of Europe and meet the friendly farmers and step inside their houses for a drink.
On request, you can experience: lunch at a traditional farm, ride the Vaser Valley steam train, a full or half day hike in the rolling hills or mountains, or a 2 hours long incursion into Ukraine.
The tour can be tailored for 2-5 days and for 1-4 people.

Day 1: Săpânţa village and Sighetu Marmaţiei's museums and food market

Stop At: Memorial of the Victims of Communism and of the Resistance, Str. Corneliu Coposu No. 4, Sighetu Marmatiei 435500 Romania
This is one of the most interesting and best documented Museums in Romania and it is considered the third Museum of the Memory of Europe after the memorial of Normandy and the memorial of Auschwitz.The Memorial of the Victims of Communism - Sighet is an old prison that has been turned into a museum. The cells are now exhibits in which you learn the recent history of Romania from 1945 to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. It offers an analysis of the totalitarian phenomenon and the nature of Communism.
