4-Day Auckland to Wellington via Rotorua Tour

An independent four-day tour package departing Auckland daily with three nights 4 to 4.5 star accommodation in Rotorua and Wellington. Get the most out of this unique opportunity by marvelling at the shimmering lights of tiny glow worms during a magical subterranean experience at the Waitomo Caves and to take in Rotorua’s impressive geysers, bubbling mud pools, and cultural Maori performances together with a trip to a working New Zealand farm and nature reserve which showcases our native wildlife. Itinerary

Day 1: Auckland – Waitomo Caves – Rotorua

Stop At: Waitomo Glowworm Caves, 39 Waitomo Village Road, Waitomo Caves 3943 New Zealand
Travelling by road from Auckland to Rotorua via the Waitomo Glowworm caves, which includes a guided tour of the caves including a boat through the glowworm grotto. The tour then proceeds to Rotorua arriving mid afternoon.

Stop At: Te Puia, Hemo Road, Rotorua New Zealand
On arrival in Rotorua, you will then be transferred to Te Puia and experience Rotorua's famous Maori culture and geothermal activity with a tour of the Whakarewarewa Thermal Valley - a place where mud pools bubble and boil and geysers shoot steam high into the air.

Stop At: Rainbow Springs Nature Park, 192 Fairy Springs Road, Rotorua 3015 New Zealand
Discover New Zealand wildlife and natural scenery at Rainbow Springs Nature Park, where you can get up close to native flora and fauna including the famous kiwi - a flightless native bird. Wander through native forest and discover New Zealand birds, fish and lizards (including the ancient tuatara), as well as exotic animals from around the world.

See Rotorua's agricultural industry in action at the Agrodome: a working organic farm where you can find out all about farming life in New Zealand. Watch a sheep shearing display and see sheep dog trials where the farm dogs show off their amazing skills.

Day 2: Rotorua

Stop At: Hobbiton Movie Set, 501 Buckland Road Matamata, Hinuera 3472 New Zealand
From Rotorua, head to the world famous location of Hobbiton: a farm that has been transformed for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movie set. See fairytale landscapes of the Shire as well as 44 hobbit holes, the Mill and double arch bridge, the party tree, and visit the Green Dragon Inn. Take a photo at the door of Bilbo’s house and learn about some interesting stories and trivia from enthusiastic guides. After your walking tour, depart Hobbiton and return to Rotorua, where the rest of your afternoon and evening can be spent at your leisure.

Day 3: Rotorua – Lake Taupo – Wellington

Stop At: Lake Taupo, Taupo Marina New Zealand
After being picked up from your accommodation, travel from Rotorua to Wellington by road via Lake Taupo, the Central Plateau (home to several active volcanoes), Palmerston North and the Kapiti Coast, arriving in Wellington by late afternoon where you will be dropped off at your evening accommodation.
