7 Days Mount Kilimanjaro Trekking through Umbwe Route

Umbwe route is the hardest but most magnificent and shortest way to reach Uhuru Peak. A Less-frequented route, which is very steep and suitable only for experienced trekkers.Additional days can be added to our programme to discover or lighten up along the route or camp in the Karanga valley.

Itinerary

Day 1: Kilimanjaro Airport to Moshi

Stop At: Moshi, Moshi, Kilimanjaro Region
Pick up from Kilimanjaro International airport and have a transfer to hotel in Moshi on Bed and breakfast
Duration: 2 hours

Day 2: Moshi to Umbwe

Stop At: Umbwe, Tanzania
After breakfast drive to Kilimanjaro National Park gate at Umbwe for starting the climb. From here hike within the forest through a narrow ridge between Umbwe and Lonzo rivers reaching Bivouac No. 1 (known as Forest Caves at 2850m - Camp and overnight.

Day 3: Umbwe to Barranco Hut

Stop At: Barranco Camp, W84H+8F4, Gilman's Point, Tanzania
The Path continues following the ridge, then leaving the forest through open moorlands to reach Barranco Hut at 395m. Camp oand overnight.
Duration: 10 hours

Day 4: Barranco to Barafu Hut

Stop At: Barafu Camp, W92H+76C, Gilman's Point, Tanzania
This day stars off with a steep climb out of Barranco valley crossing Karanga Valley and finally reaching Barafu Hut at 4600m. Camp overnight.
Duration: 10 hours

Day 5: Barafu to Mweka Camp

Stop At: Mweka, Tanzania
Early morning start to reach the crater rim at Stella point, continuing to Uhuru Peak at 589m. Decend to Mweka Camp
Duration: 10 hours

Accommodation included: Mweka Camp

Day 6: Mweka Camp to Park Gate

Stop At: Umbwe, Tanzania
The day is spent in descending down to the park Gates - Overnight at hotel.
Duration: 8 hours

Accommodation included: Easy Point Hotel or Similar

Day 7: Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport

Stop At: Kilimanjaro Airport Road, Kilimanjaro Airport Rd, Tanzania
Our driver guide will come to pick you from your Moshi Hotel and offer a transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport or start a Tanzania Safari
