Following India’s partition in 1947, a large numbers of Hindus and Sikhs migrated to Delhi from the Punjab area of what is now Pakistan. Overcoming the traumatic events of Partition, the Punjabi migrants built their lives afresh in Delhi. Many of them settled in the Jangpura-Bhogal area of Delhi, establishing homes and businesses there. This walking tour is an experience of the culture of this community.

Highlights
• Colorful bazaar
• Local snacks
• Rickshaw ride
• Temples and Gurudwaras

You will be picked up from your hotel in central New Delhi along with your guide in an air conditioned vehicle and driven to Bhogal Bazaar, an area within metro Delhi. You have a choice of either a late morning or late afternoon tour.

Upon arrival visit the market along with your guide. The Bazaar at Bhogal is a great place to meet Delhi's Punjabi community and get a glimpse of their culture and daily life. There are traditional clay ovens (tandoors) baking bread, including the extra-large Afghani tandoors. Snack shops do brisk business and street food vendors rustle up popular local favorites. The atmosphere is colorful and chaotic and the many shops offer any type of merchandise from clothing to jewelry and second hand items.

After the walk, you will take a rickshaw ride through the residential area, with its local temples and Gurudwaras (Sikh houses of worship). These religious institutions played a key role in helping the community rebuild their lives following the 1947 Partition.

At the end of your tour you will be escorted back to your hotel in New Delhi in your air conditioned vehicle.
