Bago, formerly known as Hanthawaddy, is a city and the capital of the Bago Region in Myanmar. It is located 91 kilometres north-east of Yangon. Very suitable day trip for those interested in pagodas and temples, and it’s another popular locals’ pilgrim site. Bago is an excellent place to go as a day escape from Yangon and we can see the remains of a former capital, temples, pagodas and monastery. Shwemawdaw Pagoda (the tallest temple in whole Myanmar).Kyaikpun Pagoda, Shwetharlyaung Buddha Image, Kanbawzathardy Palace and some workshops such as pottery and recycle plastic basket workshop to look around. Hinthargone is the birth place for Bago city and one can see the bird’s eye view of the city. During the King Bayintnaung’s period, Hantharwady Dynasty was Myanmar’s biggest emperor ever. European visitors knew as Pegu and very important seaport around 17th Century. We can catch a train at 3pm in Bago station to go back to Yangon if wanted. Lunch will be served at local restaurant.
