Bologna is the city where the first university of the Western world was founded. It is known as the city of music, culture and food. In this tour you will discover which historical periods significantly marked the history and architecture of Bologna. Walking through its narrow streets is the best way to enjoy the city medieval atmosphere and its 40 km-long porticoes. You will visit one of the few still-preserved ghettoes of the region as well as some of the ancient and new locations of the prestigious Alma Mater Studiorum (the university).

Enjoy a relaxing walking tour in Bologna, a city full of history and charm thanks to its porticoes and medieval buildings.

The tour can start in the morning or afternoon depending on your requests. You will meet your private guide in Piazza Maggiore, Bologna main square (or at the station) and have a pleasant walk around the city, visiting its main attactions.

You will have a look at Piazza Maggiore, with its important palaces and at via Rizzoli to understand the original plan of the city and how it has changed throughout history.

You will walk through the most famous food district of the city (the Quadrilatero), where the local food market takes place every day. Then you will stop at the Palazzo della Mercanzia and at the two medieval towers, now symbol of the city.

You will visit the beautiful and peculiar Complex of Santo Stefano and the Church of Saint Petronius, one of the biggest in Europe.

The guide will take you into the narrow streets of the Jewish ghetto, where the Jews were forced to live till the Italian Unification.

Bologna is also the city where the first university was founded. You will visit the university area, discovering this fascinating and controversial side of the city, and the Archiginnasio (the first official seat of the university of Bologna).

Finally you will be taken to one of the hidden corners of Bologna, known as the “little Venice”.
