Travel to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum, where a professional guide will be waiting for you. Tour the former Nazi concentration and extermination camp and learn about its dark history and eventual liberation, beginning with Auschwitz I, the one-time SS administrative center. After a 10-minute break, continue on to the second camp, Auschwitz-Birkenau II.
After this sobering experience, travel to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Wieliczka Salt Mine, where you will have a 1-hour lunch break before descending beneath the ground via several hundred steps to tour the historic mine complex. You will be accompanied by a local tour guide, who will tell you about the history of one of the world's oldest salt mines as you explore amazing chambers, original sculptures carved from salt rock, and authentic miners' workplaces.
After you return to the surface, the tour ends with drop-off back at your Krakow hotel around 8 pm.
