The best way to know the culture of Costa Rica is certainly submerging in the daily life of a local farmer.

On this farm tour you will have the opportunity to experience the daily routine of Don Luis Varela, and remember next to him and his family, many of the customs of their ancestors, who are now part of their daily routine.

Originally from San Ramon de Alajuela, Don Luis moved to the area of Rio Celeste over 30 years, from the time working his land with great effort, plant their crops and produce most of the things that are consumed in their home.

During the tour you will have the opportunity to know the basic and most important crops grown on most farms in Costa Rica and are part of their daily diet.

At the end of your experience at La Granja, you have the opportunity to enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner and share the table with the family.

The tour begins with a welcome presentation at the farm, where you will learn about the farm and the family who lives there.

You will also learn about the main domestic animals and their roles in the farm. Then, you will visit medicinal plants and learn about its main uses and how they have remained within the main customs that still preserve peasant families in Costa Rica.

Later on, you will stop at the greenhouse, in that place the main vegetables used in the restaurant and the kitchen of the family are planted. There, you will learn about them and their organic management on the farm. Then continue to the "mill" (sugar mill processing),which goes by the name of Don Tulio. The mill was baptized in honor of Don Tulio Varela, father of Don Luis Varela. That mill keeps great story about family.

You will experience the entire process of the production of "Sweet Cap". You can taste it as well as other derivatives, without missing the delicious "CHIRRITE" (Liquor made from sugar cane).

After the beautiful experience of mill, you will continue along the paths of the farm enjoying panoramic views of the Tenorio Volcano and much more.

At the end, you will return to the restaurant and enjoy lunch or dinner cooked country style and 100% under the standards of the Costa Rican local food.
