Your private tour guide and driver will pick you up from your Datong hotel. You'll visit the Yungang Grottoes, which are ancient Buddhist temple grottoes. They are excellent examples of rock-cut architecture and one of the three most famous ancient sculptural sites of China.

Stop At: Hengshan Hanging Temple (Xuankong si), Hengshan, Datong China

After lunch you'll to Hanging Monastery (1.5 hours). This 1,400-year-old gravity-defying structure pays homage to Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism—all in one place. Built precariously into the side of a cliff around 75 m (246 ft) above the ground, this distinctive monastery houses sculptures of the Buddha, Confucius and Laozi, which appear side-by-side.
