The stunning neo-renaissance style Tampere City Hall is located on the central square. It was designed by Georg Schreck and completed in 1890. The builing is usually accessible to the general public once a year, during the birthday celebrations of the city around the 1st October.

The most notable church in Tampere is undoubtedly the Tampere Cathedral, constructed in the district of Jussinkylä between 1902 and 1907. The church gained its status as a cathedral in 1923, when Tampere became the capital of the diocese. The grey granite church decked with a red brick roof was constructed based on architect Lars Sonck’s drawings and it was decorated by painters Hugo Simberg and Magnus Enckell.
