Chittorgarh Fort is 70 miles from Udaipur in the state of Rajasthan. It is one of the largest forts of India and contains several well preserved palaces, temples and towers. A UNESCO World Heritage Site today, it is regarded as a symbol of the valour and chivalry of Rajputs. It is famous for the fascinating story of the Rajput Queen Padmini, who preferred death to dishonour and committed jauhar (self-immolation on a huge funeral pyre).

Highlights
• Kirti Stambh, Tower of Fame
• Vijay Stambh, Tower of Victory
• Queen Padmini’s palace
• Gaumukh reservoir

You will be picked up from your hotel and driven to Chittorgarh Fort. The drive from Udaipur to Chittorgarh takes around 2.5 hours.

As you approach the fort, you will drive through seven gateways that were built to guard entry to the fort. The exact date of construction of this fort is not known. According to a popular legend, the construction was started by Bheema, one of the heroes of the Hindu epic, Mahabharata.

Today the fort is synonymous with Rajput bravery and chivalry. It was conquered three times and each time a jauhar was observed and the women of the royal family never submitted themselves to the enemy.

Visit the majestic three storeyed palace of Queen Padmini that was situated beside a lotus pond. Also see the 22 feet high Kirti Stambh. Built in the 12th century, the tower is dedicated to Lord Adinath, the first Jain Tirthankara. The nine-storeyed Vijay Stambh is an equally imposing tower that was built in the 15th century to celebrate the victory of Rana Kumbha over Mahmud Shah I.

The Fort also contains several temples including Jain Temple, Kalika Mata temple, Neelkanth Mahadev Temple, Meerabai Temple and Kumbha Shyam Temple. These are ancient temples that have noteworthy carvings and intricate work. Gaumukh reservoir and Bhimtal Tank are other places worth visiting. Gaumukh reservoir is a huge water tank that gets water from a rock shaped in the mouth of a cow.

After the tour of the fort  take lunch (own expense). After lunch you will be driven back to Udaipur and dropped off at your hotel.
