DISCOVER THE SARDINIA, THE WAYS OF TRANSHUMANCES with ANES

This trekking on foot, with donkeys carrying your stuff, offers you in the middle of unspoiled nature, the most authentic Sardinia: forests of green oaks, thick Mediterranean vegetation, rivers and sources of pure water among the highest mountains from Sardinia.

We meet wild boars, deer and the typical Sardinian fauna. With a little luck, we will see in the distance mouflons, horses and birds of prey. It will also be an opportunity to get in touch with shepherds and the inhabitants of these small villages.

The Sardinian donkey is patient, indefatigable, it is the animal of the shepherds par excellence and perfectly adapted to our trekking for the transport of luggage. In general, we will have a donkey for two.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and welcome to Jerzu

Stop At: Comune Di Jerzu, Via Umberto I, 307, 08044 Jerzu NU, Italy
Accommodation in an inn with room and private bathroom, presentation of the program of the week, dinner and overnight in the hostel. Contact with Sardinian donkeys, weather permitting, donkey rides and visit the height of the small cottage of the forest rangers in charge of monitoring the fires. From this mountain we see all the hike we will do during the week.

Day 2: Jerzu to Ulassai

Stop At: Comune Di Jerzu, Via Umberto I, 307, 08044 Jerzu NU, Italy
Departure from Jerzu in the morning to its hills, famous for the production of Cannonau wine, one of the secrets of the longevity of Sardis. Then walking towards the valley of Tacchi Ogliastra.

The walk will continue on the high cliffs, the oak forests and in the Mediterranean maquis, sweeping a view of the surrounding area and the sea.

This will be an opportunity with an herbalist to know the different plants and their uses.

Evening and dinner in the village.

Day 3: Ulassai to Osini

Stop At: Grotta su Marmuri, Pl. Grotte Su Murmuri, 08040 Ulassai, Sardinia Italy
We begin our hike by visiting the caves of Ulassai on the height of the village by taking a path that winds in the middle of the mountain overlooking the sea.

We will pass by the outdoor museum of the small village of Ulassai, to admire the works of Maria Lai, an internationally renowned local artist as well as those of other artists.

We will have the opportunity to see the canyon of Saint Giorgio, nestled in the rocky mountain in the middle of forests and we will sleep in an inn in the countryside. It will be an opportunity the evening before dinner to learn how to make the famous Sardinian ravioli "culorgoni"

Day 4: From Osini to Montarbu

Stop At: Foresta di Montarbu, loc. Montarbu, Seui, Sardinia Italy
In the morning we leave to the Nuraghe Serbissi, one of the most beautiful fortresses of Ogliastra, dating back over 4000 years, spectacular for its position overlooking the region and for its cave.

Then we descend to the picturesque valley of Gairo Taquisara, crossed by the green train of Sardinia. We will stop for lunch in a cuile, the typical hut of Sardinian shepherds.

We cross the dense forest of Niala, enjoying the song of its streams and birds to finally arrive in the heart of Mont'Arbu forest where we will stop in a forest house.

Day 5: From Montarbu to Perda liana

Stop At: Perda Liana, Gairo, Sardinia Italy
Like the ancient shepherds of the transhumance, we are heading towards one of the most important symbols of Sardinia, Perda é Liana, a limestone tower, used by the first Sardis as meeting place and pagan rites.
