Nazaré and Alcobaça: between giant waves and one of the Monasteries of Portugal

Nazaré, located on the Silver Coast, needs no introduction.
It is one of the main beach areas in Portugal and has the biggest waves in the world.
In Alcobaça lives part of the country's history, and one of the best regional cuisines that you will taste in your life.

Right in the west of Portugal and 100 kilometers from Lisbon, the Portuguese village of Nazaré is one of the most typical tourist attractions in the country.

This is a village with a long tradition centered on boats and fishing nets.

Fishermen are the biggest workforce in this locality and the fishmongers still use the traditional 7 skirts today.

A mixture of golden beaches that invite to long walks and the practice of sea sports. Nowadays, the village is known all over the world for surfing, thanks to the Nazaré Canyon, an underwater phenomenon that causes giant waves to rise.

And what about Alcobaça? Located between the mountains and the ocean, it is one of the most recognized and beautiful places in Portugal.

Construction of the 12th / 13th century, in Romanesque style, was subject to enlargements and renovations over time until its final alteration, in an idealized reconstruction of the medieval cathedral, as early as the twentieth century. Noteworthy: from the fourteenth century, in Gothic style, the cloister and the Chapel of St. John the Evangelist; the enlargement of the chancel, the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament and its 17th century silver altar in the mannerist style; from the 18th century Baroque, the frescoes of the chancel and the sacristy, by Nicolau Nasoni, as well as the cloister tiles by Vital Rifarto; from the 19th century, the sculpture of Teixeira Lopes (father) in the Baptismal Chapel.
