It was 2500 years ago in the jungles of southern Nepal that one of the world’s greatest spiritual teachers was born. Next to a beautiful pond surrounded by tigers and wild animals, his mother gave birth to what would become Lord Buddha, the founder of Buddhism.

Lumbini is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors a year to its tranquil setting. Here at the Maya Devi Temple, one can actually see a footprint left by the infant Buddha upon his birth. Walk along the peaceful canal that leads to monasteries reflecting the lands where Buddhism has spread. This is an overnight trip from Kathmandu, first by flight, then private vehicle to Lumbini. Tour during the day, and in the evening spend time at the reflecting pond overlooking the sacred birthplace in the ultimate of spiritual experiences.

Day 1: Histroy Of Lumbini

Stop At: Lumbini Monastic Site, Taulihawa Road, Lumbini 32914 Nepal
Lumbini is located in southwestern Nepal near the border of India. It is part of the plains of India and was once a very powerful ancient kingdom. A heavily pregnant Queen Maya Devi was in route to her palace when she went into early labor. By a peaceful pond, she gave birth to a prince. But this prince was destined to be greater than a king; he was to become the one to bring enlightenment to the world! It was here 2500 years ago Siddhartha Gautama, the future Buddha, was born.

This trip takes you by a short flight from Kathmandu to Bhairahawa and then a short drive to Lumbini. Spend the night at a three star hotel with excellent food and accommodations. Spend the day touring Lumbini. This place has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It covers acres and acres with beautiful gardens, tranquil canals and ponds along with fabulous monasteries. Each of these monasteries has been built by different countries, reflecting Buddhism as it has taken root across the globe. Each monastery is wonderfully different as the nations of the world have contributed back their reflection upon this unique philosophy of peace.
