Gods of Mylapore, a heritage walk in Chennai

This walk will demystify Hindu Gods & Temple rituals. From far, the thousands of Hindu Gods and complex rituals in temples look bewildering! Our Cultural Evangelist will demystify the reason for so many Gods and purpose of Temple rituals.

Relics of St Thomas are a highlight. Visit the Shrine in San Thome Basilica to see relics like a small bone of St Thomas, the head of the lance with which the Saint was pierced and an ancient painting of Our Blessed Mother.

This walking tour is led by a cultural evangelist who will bring alive the cultural heritage of Mylapore.

Mylapore is an ancient site with written records dating back to the 1st century AD. It is a land of many Gods! We will begin this culture walk at Kapaaleswar Temple, the most famous temple in Mylapore. The Temple is the epicenter of Mylapore and our guide will demystify all the fantastic rituals that are happening in the temple!

Stop At: Sri Ramakrishna Math, 31 RK Mutt Rd, Chennai (Madras) India

We will visit the monastery and universal temple of Ramakrishna, one of India's greatest philosophers. Our cultural evangelist will explain his contribution to Indian philosophy, his belief in harmony of religions. And his stellar work in acting as a bridge between the ancient and modern worlds.

We visit the principal church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Madras & Mylapore. Its a mesmerizing experience inside the neo gothic style Basilica. The shrine preserves a small bone and the lance that pierced through Saint Thomas in the year 52.
