Stop At: Thingvellir National Park, Thingvellir Iceland
One of Iceland's most famous places. This is where the Vikings assembled every summer to discuss the law, make convictions and of course practice politics of their time (something that really hasn't changed much in 1.000 years)
The National Park is also a unique place in terms of geology for this is the place where you can clearly see how the Tectonic Plates are pulling apart in Iceland.
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: Geysir, Haukadalur Iceland
We visit the hot spring area in Haukadalur the home of Geysir - the geyser all geysers are named after. Though the old Geysir has been dormant for some time his little brother Strokkur is erupting beautifully every few minutes.
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop At: Gullfoss, White River, Blaskogabyggd 801 Iceland
This magnificent waterfall is one of the highlights of the Golden Circle tour. It is hard to describe the experience of being there. There is something about seeing thousands of tons of glacial water rushing through every second. Truly amazing.
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop At: Kerid Crater, Route 35, Selfoss Iceland
This is an optional stop. A beautiful red cinder cone on the way back from the waterfall. A great way to stretch your legs and explore the volcanic side of Iceland. Admission fee is very moderate (around 3.5 US$) and is used to maintain the area.
Duration: 20 minutes
Stop At: Secret Lagoon - Gamla Laugin, Hvammsvegur, Fludir 845 Iceland
An optional stop. A perfect last stop before driving back to Reykjavik. This lagoon is one of the oldest swimming pool in Iceland built around 100 years ago to teach people how to swim. It is primitive but has been restored in a charming way. The pool is shallow (around 3 feet deep) and full with clear warm water. Dipping into this lagoon is refreshing for both body and soul and when you walk back to your car you might feel that you are sliding rather than walking. That is how smooth your body becomes after enjoying the warm water for a while.
The admission fee is around 30 US$ per person.
