Stop At: Athens, Athens, Attica

After greetings, you will start the visit by heading to the famous Acropolis, allowing to avoid the large crowds that typically flock to this iconic attraction. You’ll see the Parthenon’s main “propylaea,” dedicated to the Greek goddess Athena, and tour the Temple of Athena Nike. Then take a look at the Erechtheion, another temple dedicated to Athena and Poseidon. The views from Acropolis Hill offer a sneak preview of many of the attractions like the Ancient Agora visited later in the day. Leave the Acropolis and drive to the Temple of Olympian Zeus. Known as the largest religious structure in ancient Greece, this timeless structure took over 700 years to build. Then head to the Panathenaic Stadium, site of the first “modern” Olympic Games in 1896. Continue your excursion by checking out the Maximou Mansion, used as the prime minister’s home, visiting the Parliament House, and taking a look at the Presidential Mansion. Proceed to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, where you can observe Greece’s Presidential Guard. Take a break for lunch (own expense) and enjoy some free time wander through the atmospheric neighborhood of Plaka. The area’s traditional tavernas, stone-paved walkways, and clusters of souvenir stores make it a great spot for shopping and wandering. Finish your trip by stopping by the Ancient Agora, the central hub of historic Athens. Imagine the bustling meeting point flocked by vendors and citizens gathered to discuss politics and philosophy. After your stop at the Agora, receive a ride back to your ship at Piraeus Port.
