Amritsar, the city of the Golden Temple is frequented by devotees, foreign visitors and the Sikh diaspora from around the world. Visit the Jallianwala Bagh, the site of a tragedy perpetrated on innocent citizens by the British in 1919. Also, visit the Partition Museum, a one of its kind museum in the world that has captured the historic event of the Partition of India.

Highlights
• Golden Temple
• Jallianwala Bagh
• Partition Museum

You will be picked up from your hotel and driven to the legendary Golden Temple which is actually just a small part of a huge gurdwara complex known to Sikhs as Harmandir Sahib. There is a large water tank on the grounds of the temple complex - the Amrit Sarovar, from which Amritsar takes its name. The waters of the tank are believed to have curative powers. Spend some time inside the temple where readings from the holy book of the Sikhs continue throughout the day.

A few minutes’ walk from Harmandir Sahib is the historic Jallianwala Bagh, site of a tragedy that took place in 1919 when troops of the British Indian army fired into a crowd of Indians who had gathered for a peaceful demonstration. More than 1 000 people were killed in the firing and an equal number injured. Today it is hard to imagine that this beautiful place was the scene of a tragedy in 1919.

Next stop for lunch (own expense) at a local restaurant.

After lunch visit the Partition Museum that is dedicated to the memory of the Partition of the Indian subcontinent in 1947 — its victims, its survivors and its lasting legacy. In one of the greatest and most painful upheavals of contemporary history, over twenty million people migrated to a new homeland on the other side of a quickly demarcated border, leaving behind precious memories. This was the largest mass migration of people to date in the world.

After the visit to the museum, you will  be dropped back at your hotel.
