Stop At: Stone Forest, Monodendri 44007 Greece
Our tour begins from Ioannina up to the road that leads to the place behind the mountain (Zagori means the place behind the mountain). Our first stop will be at the Stone Forest in Monodentri.
These karstic limestone structures, located 1,500 meters (4,921 feet) above sea level, look like rock slabs stacked on top of one another. This stunning field of rocks, rising around oak and maple trees, can be found on the way to the Oxia viewpoint and is a great spot to stop before enjoying the view.
Duration: 20 minutes
Stop At: Vikos – Aoos National Park, Ioannina Greece
Then we proceed to the point “Oxia”, right after Monodendri, where the Vikos canyon is located in the Vikos – Aoos National Park. This location offers one of the best views, if not the best, to the Gorge.
Duration: 20 minutes
Stop At: Kokkori Bridge, Koukouli Greece
Then we’ll visit some of the stone arch bridges. More than 160 arched bridges were built in the greater area of Zagori, many of which still stand helping travelers to cross the numerous rivers and streams of the region. They were mostly built during the 18th and 19th centuries by local master craftsmen using local stone. These bridges usually have one to three arches called "kamares" in Greek.
We visit 4 bridges, Kapetan Arkouda bridge, Kokkori - Noutsou bridge (where you will also be informed about Vitsa and Dilofo villages), Plakidas or Kalogeriko bridge in Kipoi (where you will also be informed about the village) and Lazaridi bridge where you will be informed about Koukouli village.
