Itinerary
One of the most popular hikes on our beloved Table Mountain (platte klip in Afrikaans), name's after a large flat rock found on the route. The ‘stairway to heaven’ is the go-to route up Table Mountain for locals alike, although with 650 meter of elevation gained in less than 3 km it is no easy feat!
Hike Table Mountain via Platteklip Gorge has the shortest access to the summit of Table Mountain. The stream down Platteklip gorge provide a source of drinking water in winter and in the old day for the settlement as well as for the ships sailing around the Cape. Up-relentlessly up! The hike starts under the cable car and ascent to the contour path. It’s the most direct route to the top and the most popular. Once in the gorge the path zig-zags all the way up. As you gain height, the gorge gets narrower. The final 150m is spectacular with huge rock walls on either side, narrowing to 4m. It is not to be trifled with: the going can be tough. Way down by cable car.
