Hiking: Geological Excursion in river, the Chapel of Cilaos.

In Cilaos, we will follow the marronnage trails to the heart of a crystallized magma chamber, witness of the primitive volcanic activity of the island.

The hike begins in the heart of the village of Cilaos to quickly sink into a forest of casuarinas with a magnificent view of the village of the Islet Cordes and the canyon dug by the river Bras Rouge. The arrival on the monolith of more than 100m, reminiscent of a chapel, is impressive.

Come discover the geology of the island of Reunion!

From the Village of Cilaos, we will descend the Chapel Trail. In this shaded gully bottom, we will trace the course of the geological events that formed the island. After a short climb, we will see the magnificent rocky building of La Chapelle, heart of a volcanic chamber. A final descent leads us into the refreshing bed of the river, to the foot of the rock, where a myriad of pebbles exposes the geological richness of the places. We will take the picnic at the edge of the water.
