It is the holiest Hindu pilgrimage destination in Nepal. It is believed that the temple dedicated to Shiva existed at the site in AD 879. However, the present temple was built by King Bhupatindra Malla in 1697. The live cremation is the main attraction f this site.

This stupa is one of the holiest Buddhist sites in Nepal which is said to be almost two thousand years old. Watching over Kathmandu valley from the temple is in itself a divine experience one can ever have.
