Kayak out onto Lake Kivu and explore lush green scenic shores set against the blue water!

Paddling along the northern coastline from Gisenyi, we dip into inlets and cross bays to soak up the spectacular scenery, peace and tranquility. Classic Lake Kivu fishing boats ply the waters at sunset, their crews singing rhythmically as a traditional way of life flourishes along the verdant shore.

With its crystal clear, incredibly blue and very clean water, Lake Kivu is safe for kayaking because there are no hippos or crocodiles and we're careful to avoid times when the wind is too strong.

Our kayaks are also very stable, easy to paddle and specifically designed for touring along the coastline. We provide all the high-quality equipment and instruction you'll need so you'll find that kayaking on Lake Kivu is the most rewarding way to explore, discover and journey through the best of Rwanda.

Paddling out onto Lake Kivu we find a picturesque coastline where traditional fishing boats ply the azure waters and lush, verdant hills reach up around us. Go fast or enjoy a gentle pace whist enjoying the silence of the open water and watch for the many birds that dart in and out of bushes along the shoreline.

With a professional guide who will give you all the instruction you need, even if you've never kayaked before, this is a gentle activity that most people can enjoy.

Please note:
• No experience is needed, but you should be reasonably fit and mobile. So, for example, if you've trekked to see the gorillas or are happy to ride a bicycle around town, this trip should be suitable for you.
• We need to leave promptly, so please be ready on time. There are no refunds for missed departures.
• Bring a hat, sunscreen and wear light clothes - such as shorts and a t–shirt that can get wet. A raincoat is also a good idea in the wet season.
• Most people go barefoot in the kayaks, but footwear is necessary for when you get out at the end. Sandals work well and flip flops are ok.
• Please leave behind your jewellery, phones, cameras and anything else that could be damaged by water or lost if it doesn't float!
